Narrated Abu Huraira
The Prophet said

Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.

And whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.

Ramadhan Fast

In the month of Ramadhan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. We increase charities, avoid bad deeds and seek forgiveness. The highest is in the final 10 nights, when we hope for the rewards of Lailatul Qadr - a night better than 1,000 months.

After Ramadhan, we celebrate Eid Al Fitr (عيد الفطر) on the 1st of Shawwal with Eid prayers. It continues with 6 days of fasting, which is recommended.

Additional fasting days after Ramadhan are recommended.

002:185 Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Quran, as a guide to mankind, and clear (signs) for guidance and judgment.

So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting. But if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later.

Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship, and (wants) for you to complete the period, and to glorify Allah for that (to) which He has guided you. And perhaps you will be grateful.
revelation
002:183 O you who believe. Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may (learn) self-restraint
fast
002:184 (Fasting) for a fixed number of days. But if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days.

And as for those who can fast but with hardship (e.g. an old man etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.
fast
002:187 Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and you are their garments. Allah Knows what you used to do secretly among yourselves, but He turned to you and forgave you. So now associate with them, and seek what Allah has ordained for you, and eat and drink - until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread.

Then complete your fast till the night appears.

But do not associate with your wives while you are in retreat in the mosques. These are the limits (set by) Allah, so do not approach them. Thus does Allah make clear His Signs to men, that they may learn self-restraint.
fast
044:002-6 By the Book that makes things clear. We sent it down during a Blessed Night. For We wish to warn (mankind). In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom. By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations). As Mercy from your Lord, for He Hears and Knows (all things).
